Sally Gerlitz Doty:
Panoramas
Surrounded by inspiration, I live with my husband and our two spunky dogs, on a
peaceful hill in what I call the "Starry Night"
district of New York. Located between the Catskill
Mountains and the Finger Lakes. Lush
summers, frosty winters and starry nights.
I've been on this earth for 47 orbits now. Always a nature artist at heart, I
became intrigued with the idea of painting nature panoramas in 1988. The
challenge intrigued me and the panoramic format allowed me to play with light
and color as it flows across the entire sky. I needed to develop a mind-bending
focus to be able to paint a spatial illusion on a rounded surface. Once my mind
was sufficiently bent, painting became a meditative exploration of the world
around me.
Conceptually I strive to create worlds to hold in your hand. While turning an
Eggscape in your hand I hope you will be drawn into the painting, to feel as if
you are part of the landscape, enjoying a 360-degree view. I want you to imagine
hearing the crickets, feeling the breeze and watching for falling stars. I want
you to imagine peace.
